I sat down on the locker room bench. Then every thing around me went white. I was still on the locker room bench, but I also saw myself standing on the peak of a mountain. I was in a big mountain comp. I was competing for my first sponsor. I saw Judges at the bottom of the run, along with the other competitors, I was the last to go. Next I saw myself drop in and rip a couple of awesome turns through the trees and then launch a little cliff! After I won the competition I saw the million other comps I competed in, like the one I hucked a huge back flip off a 20 footer. Then I saw myself standing on a mountain peak, it looked like the first day, except the mountain was bigger and it was snowing. All of the sudden "I"( I as in me ) realized that I(meaning the fantasy me) was all alone except for a helicopter taking off. I new for sure that I was in British Colombia! Then I dropped in and carved a couple of huge GS turns, then I launched a 50 foot cliff and landed perfectly! After I landed I set off a giant avalanche, then I pointed it for the bottom of my line! After that I saw myself walk in to the Lodge at the bottom of the mountain I looked up and saw a banner that said "congratulations Cody Nern the best big mountain skier in America!" Then I came out of my of my fantasy when my coach said "got any goals for today Cody".
Cody
Cody, that was sooooooo good! I loved the last three lines the most though. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, your blog post didn't show up until this morning for us, that is why we hadn't commented on it. LZ
Cody! I didn't see this post until this minute! I'm so sorry. Well, I have to say, you sure know how to fantasize! :) I love how your "and then" took you so far into your fantasy. I love the terminology you used. I like very much how you didn't explain what those things mean...let ME, the reader, figure that out! I like that everything goes white around you...after all, isn't that JUST what happens in a big mountain comp? You're the speck of color surrounded by white! Nicely done, Cody! Carolyn
ReplyDeleteOH: AND MY FAVORITE LINE? YES, "GOT ANY GOALS FOR TODAY, CODY? Cody, that's just masterful! It reminds us how little we know about each other's "goals" or fantasies! So fun! Carolyn

ReplyDeleteCody,
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I knew you were going to put a backflip off a 20 footer somewhere in there. You have always talked about doing a backflip off a 20 footer, and this is the perfect place to put it. :) love the piece.
Yacob
